About Lauren Powers
Connection and hope are guiding principles Lauren brings to therapy. Lauren believes in the significance of the client-therapist relationship and that healing growth happens when people are seen, heard, and deeply cared for in a safe therapeutic relationship. Lauren tailors treatment to help her clients reach their individual goals and is passionate about helping her clients recognize their strengths, resiliency, and value. In addition to being a therapist, Lauren is a wife and mom, enjoys playing with her two dogs (a rat terrier and pit bull-boxer), being in the outdoors, and watercolor painting.
Training and Background
Lauren is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland, an EMDR trained therapist, and Registered Play Therapist. Lauren received a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Science from Messiah College and returned years later to obtain a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Messiah College.
Lauren has gained experience counseling children, adolescents, and adults. Lauren completed her clinical internship at MPB Group in Howard County, Maryland providing counseling for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. Lauren was also a school based therapist in Carroll County, Maryland counseling children and adolescents with a wide variety of mental health concerns in elementary, middle, and high schools.
Lauren is committed to receiving continual post-graduate training to provide the best therapeutic care that she can for her clients. Lauren is an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) trained therapist through EMDRIA. Lauren has also received specialized training and supervision in play therapy and is a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy.
Lauren specializes in treating trauma and anxiety disorders and provides counseling for all ages. Lauren uses EMDR, which is a highly effective, researched based therapy for the treatment of trauma for children and adults. As a Registered Play Therapist, Lauren utilizes evidence based practices, interpersonal neurobiology, and play therapy to help kids face tough situations and recognize their strengths and resiliency. Lauren also incorporates creative approaches such as sandtray in her work with teens and adults as using just words can sometimes be difficult or insufficient. Lauren has received training in the SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) program and can offer this unique program to support parents whose child or teen struggles with anxiety. Lauren is an active therapist who provides compassion, tools, and insight as her clients explore their concerns and take steps towards healing and growth.
