Shannon McGoey (she/her) is pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Hood College. She is passionate about the connection between fitness, movement, and mental health. Her areas of interest include holistic health and wellness, life transitions, confidence, self-esteem, executive functioning, and trauma. Shannon strives to create a welcoming and brave space for clients to explore and learn about themselves. She approaches counseling with warmth and curiosity.

About Shannon McGoey

Shannon's natural affinity for helping others drew her to the counseling profession. Her extroverted and empathetic personality makes her a friendly conversationalist who loves getting to know people. Shannon is also a go-getter who enjoys staying busy! In her free time, she loves weightlifting and all things active, making ceramics, baking, and volunteering as an advisor for her sorority.

Training & Education

Shannon is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, where she was also a graduate of the Honors College. Since earning her degree, Shannon has worked as a personal trainer, supporting clients of all ages—from elementary-aged children to retirees. She also spent a year working as a Registered Behavior Technician in an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) clinic for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder before beginning her graduate studies. Shannon is thrilled to begin her field experience at Creative Psychological Health Services and looks forward to learning and growing as a clinician.

Therapeutic Approach

Shannon takes an integrative and holistic approach to counseling, believing that the mind-body connection is integral to understanding and improving mental wellness. She believes that mental and physical health share a reciprocal relationship and enjoys incorporating her fitness background to foster well-being in her clients. Shannon also works through a trauma-informed, multicultural lens, recognizing the impact of intersectional identity on mental health and integrating techniques that work best for each individual client's needs. She is excited to practice more play and art-based therapy during her time at CPHS, as she also loves to express herself through creativity and play!
